Anxiety affects nearly one in two, survey shows

47 per cent of people in the UK say they get more anxious than they used to, and money and debt are the most frequently cited causes, a survey by the Mental Health Foundation reveals.
In the YouGov survey of 2,300 adults, one in five said they felt anxious a lot or all of the time, and almost two-thirds experienced anxiety daily. Young people and the unemployed were most vulnerable to anxiety.
However, only seven per cent had gone to their GP for help, and 29 per cent said they would be too embarrassed. The Foundation says children should be taught how to cope with anxiety from primary school onwards, and employers should offer support services in the workplace for people with anxiety.
